CANDY RAE AWARDS: THE STAPLE DIET

Ladies, let’s face it we all have wardrobe dilemmas from time to time but thankfully, there are a few bread and butter staples that help us get by. And so, I’d like to present Candy Rae Awards to the wardrobe superheroes that I couldn’t go without…

BEST ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE: THE SKINNY JEANS
I must admit, when skinny jeans came back onto the scene I was sceptical. It was a mixture of “No way, I’m not skinny enough to wear those!” and “They’re just going to make me paranoid about my thighs!”…Well little did I know that there would be a variety of ways to wear them and that more importantly, you don’t have to be a size zero to pull them off! Flash forward a few years and I wear skinny jeans so much that I have to tell myself that there are other things in my wardrobe. Black skinnies, coloured skinnies, leather skinnies – oh the fun!

BEST ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE: THE JERSEY TOP
When I think of wardrobe staples, the jersey top always comes to mind. Jersey plays a big role in my wardrobe. Whether it be a trusty long-sleeved top or a well-loved spaghetti strap vest. If you’re anything like me, you own a range of vest tops in a variety of colours and lengths to accompany every outfit imaginable.

[Topshop Fleck Oversized Top – £18]

BEST ALL- ROUNDER: THE LEGGINGS
Everybody needs a pair of versatile black leggings. They go with everything, and you can either dress them up or dress them down. When you’re feeling edgy, you can swap the standard black Lycra beauties for a leather, wet look, lace or printed pair. And what about denim? I’m sure we all remember the rise of the Jeggings. Oh the possibilities!

ACADEMY HONORARY: THE LBD
The Little Black Dress emerged in the 1920’s (courtesy of the darling Coco Chanel) and we haven’t turned back since. Black is such a universal colour and is so easy to wear. With the plethora of shapes and styles to suit every style desire, you can’t go wrong. I’m sure we can all testify to how instantaneously glamorous we feel when slip into a LBD.

[Miss Selfridge Macrame Dress – £32]

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT: THE CARDIGAN
Cardigans hold a special place in my heart, they take me back to my childhood. Cue kiddy parties with an abundance of sweets, ice cream and jelly – YUM. Nowadays, you’re likely to see me wearing an oversized cardi with leggings (see, it’s those trusty leggings again), a chic little black one or my famous Topshop black jersey wonder that I can’t seem to part ways with.

[Dorothy Perkins Neutral Stitchy Aztec Cardigan – Was £32, Now £20]

Finally, I would like to say a big thank you to our well-loved High Street stores for their abundance of affordable wardrobe staples.

What’s your staple diet?

Love, Ms.Rae xo
