Happy New Year! 2013 is well and truly here, how exciting!

I have just landed in England after an improptu getaway to snowy yet sophisticated Stockholm (via Google Atlantic of course) and it’s my duty to report back to you all. I have had my eye on the chic Swedish capital for the past few years. It is home to a stunning array of  both established and emerging talent, and some cool street style to boot. I admire the simplistic approach that the Swedish are renowned for (H&M anyone?). Practicality is key. After all, ready-to-wear fashion is supposed to do exactly what it says on the tin.

I’m an avid supporter of young talent, and Mercedes-Benz Young Fashion Industry Award 2011 winner, Johanna Pihl has caught my eye. The forward-thinking designer offers handcrafted fashion with a contemporary edge. The Johanna Pihl look is sharp and sophisticated. Imagine feminity juxtaposed with masculinity. This type of androgny presents a sleek yet strong attitude for the modern woman.

The SS13 collection is a breath of fresh air for those who tend to ignore pastel shades (*hand raise*). A strong white, silver, red, black and blue colour palette sets the scene for a futuristic tale of sophisticated cool. Slicked back hair and smoky eyes are the perfect accompaniment for each edgy silhouette. Pihl presents a stylish offering of leather, transparency, piping and cut-outs. Each high quality garment is handcrafted with the right balance of detailing and wearability.

Johanna Pihl is one to watch, and Stockholm will be one the next fashion capitals to join the likes of New York, London, Paris and Milan. You heard it here first on

Love, Ms.Rae xo
