Fashion month has come to an end. The international shows are over, and the SS14 trend reports are rolling in. What can we expect next season? A whole lotta choice, that’s for sure. One thing that stood out at New York, London, Milan and Paris was an overall darker take on the usual light and breezy Spring/Summer feel whether it was through colour, shape or texture. Funnily enough, this means that each trend will make a smooth seasonal transition once the weather starts cooling down next year. Oh, I do love clever fashion.

So, without further adieu let’s take a look at what next season has to offer. From sporty seperates to high voltage luxe, here’s the lowdown on my top five trends…

As seen at Lanvin, Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Diesel Black Gold, Tom Ford, Tory Burch, Roberto Cavalli, Altuzarra, Proenza Schouler, Alexandre H, DVF, Balenciaga, and Antipodium.

High gloss and high voltage is the name of the game for this glitzy trend. Luxurious lamée, sequins, and even high-shine PVC. Vibrant gold, berry, emerald and cobalt versus airy duck egg blue, white, beige and light pink. It’s the sort of decadence and richness that you’d expect for Autumn/Winter, but with a breezy, playful edge.

As seen at Victoria Beckham, Narciso Rodriguez, Rachel Zoe, Helmut Lang, Naeem Khan, Dion Lee and Jill Stuart.

All black everything is the way to go next season. I’m sure you can imagine the joy that I felt as I saw the my favourite fashion colour grace the catwalk in full effect. Make a statement in head-to-toe black. Think leather, PVC, chiffon, lace and organza. Ooh la la.

As seen at DKNY, Alexander Wang, Christopher Raeburn, Rag & Bone, All Saints, Holly Fulton, Ashish, Balmain, Emilio Pucci, Paco Rabanne, and Acne Studios.
Sporty separates teamed with tailored pieces equal sassy cool. Bomber jackets, 3/4 length jogging bottoms, Add a little leather to toughen up the relaxed look. FYI: the sweatshirt will continue its reign as the piece du jour.

As seen at Haider Ackermann, Balmain, Maria Grachvogel, 3.1 Philip Lim, Moncler Gamme Rouge, Salvatore Ferragamo, Marni and Osman.

It’s all about crisp, clean-cut tailoring next season. Sleek yet fluid shapes and linear lines with a battle between low-risers and high-waists. A traditional tailored colour story of black, white and grey with a Spring/Summer-inspired burst of pink and blue.

As seen at Michael Kors, Burberry, Mulberry, Matthew Williamson, Julien McDonald, John Rocha, House of Holland, Christopher Kane, Dior, Derek Lam, Simone Rocha, Paul Smith and Nina Ricci.

It wouldn’t be Spring/Summer if there wasn’t a romantic trend involved. Pleated skirts, tea dresses, cutesy cardigans, structured florals, lace tops and pencil skirts, flippy minis, candy-coloured coats and copious amounts of chiffon. It’s uber ladylike with a preppy twist featuring a predominantly pastel colour story with pops of orange, fuschia, black, brown, navy, red and grey.

SS14, I’m ready for you.

Love, Ms. Rae xo
